BrahmaYoga was formally established in 2010, at Thiruvananthapuram. However, it was in August 2011 that its base moved to the current premises near the serene beaches of Kovalam. Currently, regular Yoga sessions are held, on appointment, at Kovalam and also in locations across Europe.
However, the real story behind Brahma Yoga goes back almost 20 years when Suresh, founder-director of the organization, was introduced to Yoga.
Till 2006, Suresh used to work with a bank. As with most others in the industry, his life cruised along with predictable certainty. This career lasted for more than 20 years, but he felt all along that something was off. He questioned if days and nights of behind the counter is really what he wanted in life.
I was motivated by the strong desire not to arrive at the end of my life, or my career, or even the end of another year, and harbor the knowledge that I had not lived life in any meaningful sense of the word.
In the initial years, this led him to long treks through the dense forests, where he found tranquil in the silence, enjoying the depth of sensations. It was around in 1995 that he was introduced to the world of Yoga. In the years that followed, he met and learnt further under the guidance of Gurus like Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev (Isha Yoga), Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (Art of Living) and Swami Shanthi Prasad (School of Shanthi). Books and friends were a constant source of inspiration as well. He furthered his formal academic pursuits through a Post Graduate Diploma and a Master’s Degree in Yoga.
It was after years of education, practice and a true conviction that he had something that he could share with the world that he registered with the International Yoga Association as a Registered Yoga Teacher.
Eventually, when I felt I had something simple, unique, and true to offer, I began to share it,
opened my own school and yoga studio in Kovalam.
